This cat story is about a wonderful cat Sky, about a family with hearts full of love, about care and strength that make miracles reality. Thank You Rae, who shared this awesome story about their cat Sky. Thank you for everything you did for Sky. It is awesome to hear about such a caring family and big love and hearts that saved a cat!
Our cat Sky limped into the dining room where my husband, daughter, and I were having lunch, dragged himself up on to the couch and stared at us funny.
We took him to the vet and he had a broken femur. Sky needed a FHO surgery, his femur ball where it met the hip had to be removed, and his femur would be in his leg but not in his hip.
It was expensive and scary and painful. We had to sit with Sky in shifts 24-7 for the first two weeks. Support him in the box, clean his junk for him, and beg him to eat one small bite at a time.
In two weeks he could use the box alone. Within two months Sky began to use the stairs, in three he was climbing onto the couches and beds by dragging himself up with his front claws. By seven months after the surgery he could jump up three feet vertical. Now after 15 months people can’t tell which leg was hurt just by looking.
Sky is a great cat. Sky was a comfort to our cat Rollin, and us, when Rollin passed last November. Within two days of Rollin passing we decided to pick up to kittens from our rescue and bring them home to Sky, Miles and Purrl.
Within days the kittens were very sick. Miles was ill for two weeks, and Sky held him like a baby for most of his recovery, even when he caught the cold. Purrl stayed sick for six weeks.
They are all very healthy now and bring great joy to our life. We still find Sky caring for the kittens, and we are amazed that he was so instantly good at it!
