Meet a cat – Dutchess from Illinois, USA. She is a survivor of a house fire where she got 2nd and 3d degree burns.
Like many of our lovely fur babies she surprised everyone by a miracle of surviving. Her cat people and vet doctors doing everything they can to heal Dutchess.
Dutchess is now at Illinois Small Animal Hospital where she became a lap cat. She likes going from student lap to student lap.
Awesome cat people created a Facebook page to raise money to cover vet bills of the expensive recovery because Dutchess family does not have enough resources for that.
Some people suggested to put Dutchess down which is absolutely not accepted by her loving owners who want her to live and recover.
Thank you to that wonderful cat people who saved this amazing cat!
And thank you for your golden heart when you support Dutchess recovery, love and hugs to you!
Becky Wigley-Smith, a veterinary nurse, writes about the miracle cat Dutchess:
This cat is quite amazing!
I’m a veterinary nurse who lives/works in London, England. When I first saw this story I was concerned for her. For her happiness. For her well being. For her welfare. Before judging, I decided to look at some of the pictures, read some of the stories and watch some of the videos. I have come to this conclusion:
This cat is amazing and you did the right thing in treating her rather than euthanasing her. She’s so happy in so many of the videos. She’s so happy and comfortable in many of the pictures. I wish I had found out about Dutchess sooner so that I could have followed her story in “real time”.
She is an absolute inspiration and I now know that if, while working as a VN, I ever see a cat who is in a similar state as to what Dutchess was in, I will not give up hope and say to euthanase them. I will fight to treat them. I can see that it was a long road to recovery. But she’s worth it.
They all deserve a chance.
I hope I haven’t offended anyone from this post. I just wanted to let you all know that I think she’s a brilliant, inspiring cat. She deserves all the love she gets.
A word from the guys from The Dutchess Burn Fund:
We are very happy that you and everyone else are able to see that Dutchess was meant to live. There have been Many people that disagreed with us for not putting her down, but we always knew that she was a fighter. She is the most loving kitten and she is spoiled rotten by her team of Dr.’s and Vet students. Please continue to follow her progress because we are getting so close to having her home where she will be spoiled for the rest of her life
There are times when our cats’ health is not going quite well. So much required surgery or a long non-treatable illness can follow your cat for weeks, months or even years.
Don’t give up. Keep caring after your cat, you are doing a great job! I know it can be draining, it can require lots of money to cover vet bills – but it is all worth it.
You are not alone. We have a wonderful cat community in Australia.
Share what you are going through. We will try to help and will share your feelings.
Keep caring after your cat in difficult times. You’re doing a great and the right thing. Hugs, respect and love to you!
