Advice Wanted! Cat is Stolen in Melbourne, Those People Don’t Let Him Back

Our Ozzi Cat fan contacted me asking for help and advice. Let me call her a Cat Lady for security reasons until she decides to step in and uncover herself. The Cat Lady is desperately trying to get her cat back after he was stolen from her.

Read her story and share any ideas on what she could try to re-unite with her cat? Have you ever had your cat stolen? How did it all resolve?

The Cat Lady lived a happy life with her cat in Melbourne until one day a person, known to the family, took the opportunity to take the cat from the Cat Lady’s house.

For three months the person and his girlfriend had been hiding the fact of taking the cat. During that time the Cat Lady visited pounds, council, vets, The Lost Dogs Home, placed posters and did everything she could to find the cat. Only to find that her cat was taken by people she knew.

The person who took the cat asked the Cat Lady whether they can keep the cat, on which the Cat Lady replied No as she did not want to separate with her cat. Those people said they wanted to keep the cat and they would pay money for him. The Cat Lady does not want to give away or sell her cat. She wants him back.

Police was called but the couple who took the cat said the cat was given to them by the Lady’s partner, which was not true, the Cat Lady says. Because of this the police does not consider this as a theft but a civil matter. (Side note: Does it mean, if somebody steals from me and just says I gave it to him, I’m not protected by the police even I have all papers of ownership to that thing on hands?)

The cat is microchipped and registered with a Cat Lady listed as an owner. The cat is flagged as “stolen” with CAR (Central Animal Register where the majority of Aussie cats’ microchips are registered).

The Cat Lady is afraid to lose ownership and is looking for ways to get her cat back. It’s a devastating and stressful situation breaking the heart of the cat mum. It’s been already six months since the Cat Lady and her cat are apart. “I just want my boy back”, she says.

What would you do in this situation? What steps would you take, who would you contact, to get the stolen cat back? If you ever had your cat stolen, how has it all resolved? Post in comments. Please ask fellow cat lovers their recommendation.
