Adelaide’s Pop-Up Cat Cafe Run by Paws & Claws Adoptions Inc
The Australia’s first not-for-profit pop-up cat cafe is located in South Adelaide and runs by a small self-funded volunteer group, Paws & Claws Adoptions.
The cafe was set up in April to rehome 45 cats during the school holidays.
Everyone could come to the cat cafe located at 19 – 21 Magill Rd Stepney to drink coffee while enjoying time with cats and kittens.
Since opening more than 200 cats have found forever homes and were saved from being killed in shelters and pounds.
Among others the rescue group is supported by Elizabeth Park Veterinary Clinic and P&K Pets.
As a volunteer Kelly Haniford told The Advertiser, Paws & Claws Adoptions worked closely with the RSPCA and Animal Welfare League to save cats.
The Adelaide’s cat cafe have a rent-free arrangement with P&K Pets expiring on May 31. Fred Barone, the owner of P&K Pets, kindly offered a discounted rent to the rescue group so the cat cafe can stay open.
Tim Vasudeva, the RSPCA SA chief executive, showed his support for keeping the cafe open, as that would make it easier for potential owners to meet cats and to interact with them.
“Any proactive adoption program which helps to responsibly and lovingly rehome cats and kittens, particularly during kitten season, should be encouraged,” said Mr Vasudeva.
