Great Kitten – The World’s First Cat Cinema & Cafe In London: Are You Coming?

The world’s first cat cinema and cafe is planned to open in London, UK. What is the story behind it, why a cinema, and who is the cat cinema for?

With cat cafes on the rise in many countries and the “Lion City Kitty” Cat Museum recently opened in Singapore, opening a cat cinema sounds like something new. Will the time of Cat Festivals be gone once the Cat Cinema opens in London?

While travelling in Asia, Paula Siedlecka and William Piper, 25- and 24-years-old, visited the Cat Cafe in Ho Chi Minh City. Inspired by the Vietnam’s cat cafe, they started thinking of how to combine positive effects that cats have on people’s health and helping cats who need loving homes.

Being avid film lovers they decided to combine the popularity of cat cafes, quirky and unique cinemas, and the love of Londoners for cuppa – to open the world’s first Cat Cinema & Cafe in North London.

They envisage the Cat Cinema will provide a rustic style log-cabin atmosphere. A fireplace, stone walls, ceiling with wooden beams, and comfy sink-in sofas are to welcome cat lovers for a drink, a movie, and cats. There will be human-free zones where 10 adopted resident cats will have their private time.

Paula and Will plan to choose cats that previously lived with other cats and were happy about that. Cats will have an indoor and a safe outdoor area. Kitties will have a free access to the cinema area and will choose where and with whom to sit while cat lovers are watching movies.

Cat loving visitors will enjoy 10 movies a week. To cater various tastes, the movies will include the latest blockbusters, art-house cult classics, and cat-themed movies.

Not new to business, retail, and sales, Paula and Will are on the way to give back to charitable causes and to leave their step in animal welfare. The couple says “We feel that the existing Cat Cafes in the UK do not give enough back to their local communities”.

Paula and Will’s cat cinema will have one afternoon per week as a “cat therapy” time for children and adults with disabilities and special needs, including autism, Down’s syndrome, people with life-threatening or terminal illnesses such as cancer and heart disease. Other work will include featuring cats available for adoption and raising awareness on cat welfare.
